The Utopian Experience

Utopia is an interactive game unlike any other on the web. The experience is entirely what you make it. Whether it's simply a way to spend a few minutes a day or an escape from the hassles of the real-world, Utopia affects different people in different ways.

In total, our users have spent well over 50 million hours playing our games over the last several years. During that time, our games have impacted lives in amazing and fantastic ways. Whether it's bringing families together or creating friendships across the world, our users' stories are unique, intriguing, and amazing. Every day, we will feature a unique story below about how Utopia has changed some of our users' lives.

Today's Story:

I have played utopia since around age 6 or 7, over 4 years ago now I think. And I have always enjoyed my time in the game, there have been the good times and the bad, but with the friends you make with this game you never need to worry as you all get through the bad times together. The one thing that has attracted me to playing utopia is the fact that there is no social distinction between class, colour or creed. Of course like every social situation, there are ways that people make distinctions between people; however these are far less distinctions than would be made in real life. Assumptions are never made about people just because of their nationality or gender, and that is what makes Utopia such a diverse and multi-cultural game, one that I feel proud to be a part of.

I remember when the new Genesis server was introduced to utopia, I was very skeptical about the idea of a server where you only get to play one age with a kingdom and then had to create new accounts at the start of the new age. However I believe that I have had more fun and enjoyment on this server than any other, due to the fact of this shuffling every age. I have had the great fortune of being in some great kingdoms every age, and got to make some very good friends in utopia this way, I am still extreme ly close friends with a member of my first ever genesis kingdom. However it was not until the age just gone, when I made some of the closest friends in utopia that I have ever had, and this is the story that I wish to share.

I started the age as normal, by creating my account and logging into my new kingdom and meeting all the other players there, and I remember straight away feeling that this kingdom could go somewhere and be a great kingdom, as all the players seemed active and experienced. Having personally been monarch for many ages in the Battlefields server, I offered myself as an option for the monarchy, and after giving my kingdom mates a brief biography of my utopian history, which I won t go into here, they immediate ly unanimously decided that I should be the monarch of the kingdom. Straight away we set out our goals and decided that we would play for Honour and to enjoy the age by working together as an active team of friends.

The age went on and day by day we realized how close we were becoming as friends, I think it was 19 out of 20 provinces used MSN, and at times we had 12 people online for declarations which showed immense dedication and team spirit. We immediately had connected as a kingdom; everyone just seemed to fit together. Not once was anyone ever traded into the kingdom. Every person was there by random, and it was one of my kingdom mates 2nd ever age, and he almost reached the honour rank of marquis. This was be cause we worked together as a team; we each helped each other out with teaching and learnt new ideas and skills of each other. I did my up most as monarch to teach and share my knowledge and experience with the team, and many in the kingdom did the same. I can say without hesitation that I had an immense feeling of pride, when I looked at the day before the end of the age and to see us sitting in the number 5 spot for honour in the world. This shows that a bunch of people who are active and work hard as a team can achieve anything.

I made friends in this kingdom who I know I will be staying in touch with forever, and I will be making as much an effort as possible to meet up with some of them in the real world. One of them is coming to the UK to study at university so I will be definitely meeting up with him. Others I will be staying in touch with and if I ever visit their countries in the future I will most definitely try and meet up with them. Utopia is not just a game where you play to win, I believe that it is far more than tha , it is a place to make friends and to meet people, and I believe that is exactly what I have got out of utopia from my personal experience.

I remember when I last looked at the kingdom page and the forums for this kingdom; there was a tear in my eye to think that I would no longer be playing with this group of very close friends. However I know that even if we can no longer play in the same kingdom we will always stay friends, and keep in contact. This story is about how with no prejudice and assumptions about people how you can become such good friends to the point where saying goodbye is very hard indeed. This experience of mine in utopia is one that I will never forget and I wished to share this with you all, as I way if any new players are looking at the game wondering what it is like, then there are some excellent times to be had here. If you are having a rough time in the game right now - stick with it, you will be surprised how quickly the good times come around.
